On Wedding Gifts...
As you know, we've lived together awhile now and thus have most of the basics we need to run our home together.
We don't see our wedding as a lottery. Instead, we believe it is a celebration of love, faith and unity. Therefore, we're not registering for any gift lists or registries, nor are we placing cards for such in our invitations.
For the sake of our guests, Mrs. Atkins has an idea of things we would need as well as our china pattern so please contact her should you have any questions.
One thing we would ask is that you consider making a donation to charity in honour of our Wedding.
After all, we invited you because we are honoured to spend our special day with you and not because we are desperately in need of a new soup tureen. ;-)
Our favourite charities are listed below.
La Leche League: As many of you know, I am a breastfeeding Mother. Therefore, an important charity to me, and one which often goes unsung though they go above and beyond in helping Mothers like me to give their babies the best start in life, is La Leche League.
When people think about charities, they often miss this one out because of all the attention the media garners for the rest of the charities out there. So many people out in the World need urgent help, that's true.
However, I feel that Mothers feeding their babies is just as worthy a cause as any other. Link to donation page
World Wildlife Foundation: From endangered species and other animal rescue and preservation to dismantling illegal animal trade rings, these folks are working to protect the World's animals as well as their habitats. Link to donation page
Oxfam: We often shop in Oxfam charity shops. We find the items there are often unique as well as good quality.
From the Oxfam website: "Oxfam. What springs to mind? Charity shops and second-hand clothes? Donkeys from our Oxfam Unwrapped gift catalogue, bought for people in far-flung lands? They’re part of the picture. But think bigger. Much bigger. Big enough for 99 per cent of the great British public to have heard of us. Because Oxfam is a vibrant global movement dedicated to fighting for an end to poverty and suffering worldwide. This drives everything we do. From saving lives and developing projects that give people power, to campaigning for change that lasts. That’s Oxfam in action." Link to donation page
RSPCA: Along with people, the animals of the World need protection and care too. The RSPCA receives no government funding whatsoever, so we buy a lot of our household items and clothing at charity shops run by the RSPCA and we try to do whatever we can to help them to help those animals in need. The Red Cross: An organisation which is always in need of help and that has done all of the World so much good. So well known are the endeavours of the Red Cross Worldwide that I feel that further explanation is superfluous. Link to donation page
We thank you in advance for your consideration of these alternate gift ideas and we wish you well until we see you again.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Valerie Atkins via the Contact Us page.
With Fond Regards,
Anne & James
